Q: What sales/marketing jobs are the most profitable?
I am studying marketing and I am trying to figure out what I really want to sell. I know that in order to be successfull you will need to believe in what you sell. I am just gathering ideas.

A: I am in sales, and I would approach your question somewhat differently. You have a personality, there are things you like to do, and there are things you are good at. I would figure out what "kind" of sales you want to go into. You can look at the different types of sales in terms of the kind of relationship you want with your customer, and what suits your personality better. With the least amount of interraction with your customer, there is the one call closer. When you get to the point in your life when you need to put a new roof on your house, aluminum siding, windows, or any other kind of home improvement, you can call a company like Sears. In this situation, a sales rep will come to the house, look at the job, make a presentation, and give you a price. Typically, you make the decision right then and there. The second level of involvement is where you work with your customer until the deal is closed, then the servicing (or whatever), is handled by another department, or another company. If you are the least bit familair with uniform leasing, this is how their sales reps operate. Typically this kind of sale can take a few weeks, or several calls to make the deal. Then once you make the deal, it's turned over to the production people where the uniforms are purchased, name tags are applied to the shirts, and the account is assigned to a route driver. Then the third kind of sale is where you have the same set of customers that you call on periodically. Typically, you have a list of clients that you call on monthly or sometimes even weekly. Hospital and medical supplies, food sales, and any other industry where there are repeat sales is where this type of selling is applied. In many respects the three situations are very similar, but what makes them different is the types of skills required to become successful in each one. Some people like the third situation better because it affords them the best possibility at building rapport and long-term relationships. Other people would find that boring, in seeing the same faces and same situations every day, and every month. They like the challenge of seeing a new face every call, and having one opportunity to close the deal. Also, in some industries, there are other skills involved. If you also like to draw and have an interest in architecture, you might like the contract office furniture business. There is a book called "What Color is your Parachute" and that is an excellent book in getting you focused on things you like to do, things you are good at, and getting you focused in thinking this way. Then after that, there's nothing wrong with talking to people. If you think there is something out there that you would LIKE to sell (chances are if you like to sell it, you will be successful) then talk to the people that are already selling it. Being successful in sales is just as much knowing yourself, as knowing the product and competition, and your customers...

Q: Why is it the "events marketing and sales" jobs advertised on job websites seem to be to good to be true ?
No experience needed and full training provided for a rather impressive pay. What sort of things would you be doing in this type of job ?

A: Sales is a tough job. Which the British view as of little value. because thats how we are trained. what we dont understand is that without sales people most people wouldn't have a job. The skills required to be a good sales person can not be learned on a one week course hosted by some numpty trying to sell low quality over priced merchandise. If you really want a job in sales you need to have the right attitude thats the most important thing. A sales negotiation is a two way thing between the company and the prospective customer. Both must suit each other to make the transaction worth while. A level of sales skills can be learned very quickly using a script or presentation but the real sales person will take years to learn their craft and will have to endure a long apprenticeship to get too the top. But it is worth it because you can earn more than any other profession if you are good. Too start you need a job that gets you in front of a lot of people and the best jobs for this are door to door canvassing put up wth the odd bit of rudness from the numpties and keep going most people are nice if you are nice to them.

Q: Marketing/Sales Jobs?
Hi, I graduated from college in May and am having trouble finding work. The only people that seem to be hiring are those advertising Marketing positions when they are really door to door sales jobs. This is not my ideal line of work, however I'm getting less and less selective as time goes by. Basically what I'm wondering is if anyone has taken a job like this and found it to be a good decision. If someone could give me some advice I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

A: I did a couple of those jobs - they sucked, I didn't make any money but I really got a lot of experience and learned from doing it. You might want to start looking for general office work and then work your way up?

Q: is this sales/marketing summer job grunt work or just physically exhausting?
summer internship in sales/marketing Job Description new account prospecting, account maintenance, route rides with coca cola reps, merchandising i would be selling vitamin water and other drinks i get salary so yeah i would be going to stores is it physically exhausting? a lot of lifting? heavy? i was thinking of doing that or a restaurant server, bartender or host........ camp (low pay cuz of exp.) i hear it's A LOT Of manual labor is this true?!???

A: Hello...I'm back again to try to compare the Coke Merchandising Job versus restautant jobs you mentioned: The Coca Cola Merchandising Job WOULD involve lifting cases of soda and/or water (at least 20-30 lbs..maybe a bit more)....so yes, some physical activity, but an EXCELLENT start with a GREAT company (I considered a similar position with Pepsi). Salary and benefits would be better at Coke vs. a restaurant host/waiter type job where you're HEAVILY reliant on TIPS, because salary is low. We're in a recession, so expect tipping to be moderate to downright low, right now. Bartenders CAN rack up some good money because of the constant flow of tips...and after a few drinks people get a bit more generous with tipping...LOL!! BUT, do you KNOW how to make cocktails?? It's not all about serving beer and whiskey on the rocks...The BEST bartenders have gone to a bartender school and learned the trade, so to speak.

Q: What kind of job it could be?Christmas sales and marketing job, full training.?
I got an interview of CSC marketing(Manchester) firm on Thursday(18th). It about sales and marketing only around Christams. No experience requred, the full training will be given. Pay weekly. But I am not sure what kind of job I am going to do. and how to prepare the interview. Indeed I saw many of this kinds of jobs on newspaper. It is only exist around chrsitmas, and about sales and marketing. full training. Pay weekly.

A: Possibly a call center environment (telemarketing) depending on the area you live in it could also be outside sales. But it sounds like telemarketing. Prepare for the interview like you would any other and dress business casual for it. Be prepared for them to ask you how you take rejection.

Q: Sales and Marketing Jobs in Sydney... What are they like?
Hi All! Im moving to Sydney from NZ soon and want to get a job straight away. Because Im quite young and don't have too much workplace experience I'll need to find a job quickly to get me started... and I know people are racing for jobs in Sydney so it will be very competitive. There have been alot of jobs avertised on SEEK lately advertising for Sales and Marketing, Promotions....etc with headings like this... "NO#1 THIS WEEK ** NO EXPERIENCE REQD!! Marketing and Customer Sales Promotions" Just wondering if anyone has done this type of employment before or knows what this kind of job involves..... Here are a few links to some jobs advertised on SEEK... would appreciate it GREATLY if anyone could check out the links and let me know more about this type of employment! http://www.seek.com.au/users/apply/... http://www.seek.com.au/users/apply/... Thanks!... :-)

A: "Sales and marketing no experience required" sounds like door to door sales or a similar scenario, with low pay and needing commissions for selling a product no one really wants to make any sort of decent income. Make sure you ask a few questions before committing.

A: "NO#1 THIS WEEK ** NO EXPERIENCE REQD!! Marketing and Customer Sales Promotions" That advertisement sounds like door to door selling, to me. That's the type of advertisement Kirby vacuum cleaners use. They pay on a commission only basis, no matter what they promise you. Their "staff" turnover is extremely high. The clue is the "NO EXPERIENCE REQD" statement. I could be wrong but I don't think so. It's not a job I'd encourage anyone I know to apply for. Also, your links didn't work for me. I'm sorry I've sounded all doom and gloom, but it's better to know than to be caught by these preditors who promise everything and deliver less than nothing.
