Q: medical technologist jobs?
may i ask what is the easiest way in order that i can work in US as a medical technologist. tnx
I'm a Filipino Citizen
A: You need a certification first; check the websites of AMT, ASCP and NCA. They can get you a certification if you have the right qualifications and/or experience.
Here are their websites:
http://www.amt1.com
http://www.ascp.org
http://www.nca-info.org
Some US states require that you have a license in addition to the certification (California, Florida, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Tenessee, West Virginia, Hawaï, (and maybe New York, but I'm not sure)). It is best to ckeck if your state requires a licensure or not (check the job ads in your state, the employers often say it in their job description and requirements).
To learn more about licensure, you can go to this website:
http://www.ascls.org/jobs/grads/personnel_licensure.asp
If you are not a U.S. citizen, and seek a H1B or permanent occupational visa (green card), you may also need the "visascreen certificate".
You can check the following websites for more information:
http://www.ascp.org/Certification/VerificationofCertification/security.pdf
and
http://www.cgfns.org
For more information about medical technologists, you can go to:
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos096.htm
I hope this helps.
Good luck with all this red tape!
Q: What is the nature of the medical technologist's job?
I want to ask the medical technologists if what is the nature of their job.
A: It depends which branch of medicine you are in. If you work for haematology you will be processing blood specimens and putting them through a machine for the most part. Histology will require some hands on work preparing slides using frozen sections and doing some microscopy work. Bacteriology involves the processing of specimens through culture plates and microscopy techniques. There are plenty of other branches of medicine but that gives you a few examples.
Q: I just got a medical technologist job offer in Hawaii. Is $500 a good sign on bonus? ?
Plus they are giving me $5,000 for moving expenses. And starting pay is $25 an hour. I know this is a good deal. I was only making $19 an hour in my last job. I am a board certified medical tecnologist(ASCP). Gosh, I am so excited! Thank you, any input you can give me is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
A: Make sure you evaluate the cost of living in Hawaii.Housing and groceries can be very expensive in some parts of Hawaii. $25/hour can be worth less than the $19/hour you're currently making, especially if you currently live in a low-cost area. For example, 50k in Ohio buys more than 80k in NYC.
Search cost of living calculators- there are tons of them online, and compare if you will really be making more. Are you going to rent, or do you plan to buy? Real estate is still pricey in Hawaii.
If you have kids, you should also consider the schools in the area, and the cost for extra curricular activities (they vary by area) .
If you are going to make about the same amount of money or a tad less, it might still be worth moving, if the new job offers you more room for growth and if you think you will be happier there.
Q: What else can a Medical Technologist do on the job?
I am currently going to school to be a medical technologist at USF. I was wondering if there was other things that we can do except for looking in a microscope. I would like to work at a medical examiners office or at a fertility clinic of some sort. Do the jobs responsibilities open up if it is a smaller place? I just don't like to sit in one place all day, I like to do a variety of things and work with patients on some level.
A: Yes. The skills you learn as a MT (more than just a microscope) such as gas chromatograph, ELISA, PCR, etc can get you jobs in forensic labs and the FBI labs (where you do things like paint comparison, alcohol testing, drug testing etc); research labs (could include fertility with some more training); the Red Cross in their blood processing areas, industrial labs etc.
Q: I will have a job interview for a medical technologist. Is a formal suit too formal?
I will have a job interview for medical technologist next week. Interviewers will be a manager (wears a uniform) and a doctor. I am not sure a set of formal suit is very suitable for the interview. But I am not comfortable with casual style. What should I wear for the interview? Thanks a lot!
A: no, not at all. Suit, Tie. Light color shirt with a nice tie. Business sence and good first impressions are very important
Q: Medical technologist???
I have a biology degree and I'm trying to expand my options as to what I can do with it.. I've looked at some hospital lab jobs such as the medical technologist but U have to get a license in this. How do I get a license, will I have to go back to school for it or what?? Clueless. Help? I live in florida too if that helps any.
A: If it's something that requires a state license, check the website of your state's licensing agency. In Florida, it is probably the Department of Health Services. Check out the website below, find the application for a Medical Technologist, and review it. The application itself will tell you what is required to be licensed, and then you'll know if you need to go back to school to complete any additional requirements. Good luck!

Q: What is the difference between biomedical scientist, medical technologist and medical lab technologist?
What is the difference between biomedical scientist, medical technologist and medical lab technologist?
what is the difference in the jobs of a biomedical scientist and a medical technologist? is medical technology the same as medical laboratory technology?
i am a student from malaysia who is planning to major in medical technology .. i plan to study in the us... but i am worried about my future and prospects in this field. Could someone please aid me with this... thank you!!!
A: I don't know for sure what a biomedical scientist is, but I suspect it is someone who holds a PhD in the field of laboratory science. A medical technologist has a bachelors degree in laboratory science. And a medical lab technologist holds an associates degree in laboratory science. You didn't ask the difference in pay between an MT and a MLT, but it's 5-10 dollars an hour, maybe more depending on the facility and the responsibility.
Q: I am considering a career as a medical technologist. Can you give me the pros and cons of this profession?
I have Bachelor's in Psychology and Business Admin. The jobs I've had so far have been low paying customer service type stuff. Though this could be because I live in Lakeland, FL. I was pre-med at UF and so I've taken classes in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Statistics, Anatomy and Physiology. I decided against med school since I don't like to deal with people and their problems, but I'm interested in medical research. But I want a job that allows me to have a fair amount of physical motion. Being a factory worker in an automobile manufacturing plant sounds good to me. In other words, I don't want to be in a cubicle and tied down to a phone all day. I don't want to work standard business hours due to my insomnia I have a hard time showing up to work at 8 am. The local hospital has different shifts available for medical technologist. I would have to go through a training program and get licensed. Can you tell me whether this is the right profession for me?
A: i am a medical technologist (we call them clinical laboratory scientists) at Johns Hopkins Hospital. of course i went to college for 4 yrs to get this degree and not a training program. school was really hard and the exam was harder. i really like what i do so its a great job for me not sure for you. i have to work with every kind of body fluid known to man but i can stomach it. i work with alot of machines (sysmex, BCS, hitachi) and do differentials under the scope. i started off making $45,000/yr out of college. now im 24 and last year i made $60,000. so for someone my age thats well above average. so really you would have to get blood and urine all over your (gloved) hands all the time so if you are up for that then its for you. contact me if you need anymore info, would be glad to answer questions.
Q: I am a Medical Technologist.I want to search job in sg.Can I get a working permit pass and how?
I have no friends in sg.How can I search job in sg ?
I want to work in Laboratory.I've got a degree of B.Med.Tech(Medical Laboratory Technology).
A: I must be dense this am...what is sg?
Q: Is there a medical technologist out there that can tell me if they enjoy their job?
I really would like to get into this field but after doing some research on the internet I have found there are alot of med. techs that hate it. I dont want to go to school for a job I hate.
Also, I read an answer to someone else's question on this site about salary that said medical technologists make around $10 an hour. However, I have found numerous websites that say you can expect to make around $40k to $50k per year. Salary isn't that important to me but I don't want to make $10 for the rest of my life, especially with a degree. Is this true?
Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
A: The truth: You will enjoy working as a Med Tech if you are employed at a larger hospital. In the smaller hospitals, you will feel unappreciated and run around like a chicken with your head cut off! The shortage is worsening so you may be drawing blood, answering phones, and trying to get all your testing done by people who want their results "yesterday". BUT, if you work at a larger hospital, the testing will be more interesting (think teaching hospital with studies going on, etc) and you will only have to do your tech work, not a lot of other stuff to bog you down.
Wherever you work, you will most certainly make more than $20/hr and sometimes much higher depending on the shortage in your area.
Q: What US country is Medical Technologist is in demand?
I have a Medical Technologist boyfriend. He is presently working in a Hospital here in Cebu, Philippines. He wanted to work abroad especially in a US base or somewhere in Germany. he wanted to apply online like Hotjobs.com. How would we know that, that certain company is open for an outsider to apply? Is it a good idea to apply online or what is the best thing to do to apply a job outside Philippines. Another thing is...a friend told me that in Germany, you have to be a citizen for you to able to get your girlfriend or boyfriend in other country but how about in US? Thank you in advance!
A: you need a visa or become a citizen to live here. Hotjobs applications ask you for residential information and travel preferences.
Q: What is the difference between a medical technologist and a medical technician?
I know about the degree (Bachelor's and Associate) difference and salary difference, but what about the JOB difference? I am majoring in medical technology and it sometimes discourages me seeing those TV ads for 2 year schools, knowing I am going to much better school yet may still end up doing the same duties as someone who went to a crappy school.
A: The separation of duties between MLTs and MTs is more apparent is some departments than in others. For example, in most blood banks and microbiology labs, only the MTs will perform the higher complexity testing such as anitbody identification and culture reading. In contrast, all laboratorians generally perform the same testing in more automated departments like chemistry and hematology.
Although, there are always exceptions to the rules. People may be separated by their qualifications, but sometimes aptitude has be considered and responsibilities are sometimes assigned according to ability.
