Q: What's the deal with "entry level marketing" jobs?
I've been looking for a job and I keep running across "sports marketing" and "event marketing" firms that are offering "entry level management opportunities." I'm always skeptical of "marketing" jobs in general because a lot of times they are either outright scams or just want you to stand on the corner in a chicken suit, so I started researching. What I found was companies like this all over the country. A lot of them have exactly the same webpage with just the name of the company changed. They are obviously affiliated, but I cannot find any evidence of a parent company. They all claim to be independent growing businesses. I also find it strange that the only "marketing" that they seem to be doing is for finding new employees and not actually searching for new clients. Does anyone know anything about these companies? Is it some kind of pyramid scheme? Here's an example of what I mean... http://www.cookemarketing.com/
Victor - Actually, the job descriptions say no telemarketing, B2B, etc. That's what I thought at first too.
A: You will find these jobs are one of two things, telemarketing jobs or door to door canvasser/sales jobs.
Q: New graduate looking for career advice relating to marketing, sports and travel.?
I just recently graduated college with a BBA degree in marketing. Now I am out on the market looking for a good job. I really want to work in either a.) the sports industry, football, baseball, basketball, anything or b.) a career that involves a lot of travel, hopefully something around event marketing. However, both of these markets are very hard to enter into or you need a lot of previous experience. Is there anyone out there that has any connections or advice / tips on how they got started in sports marketing industry or an events marketing job with lots of travel? Thank-you ... anything you have to say about this would be helpful.

Q: What exactly does "event based marketing" mean?
I'm applying for a job and they say the do "event based marketing" and I just wanted to know what exactly does that mean.
A: Hi..I'm doing event based marketing for the Big Seminar in Atlanta.
It has to do with promoting an event..in this case an internet seminar that has 11 of the top internet marketers in the world.
There are many ways you can promote things..basically you are letting people know why they should attend or particpate in the event.
You are educating your audience..target market..about the benefits. Your campaign will be intense for a short period of time.
Q: I am looking for a work at home job B2B appointment setter, or marketing event's.?
work from home setting appointments, for B2B business owners or marketing events work days m-f. telemarketing.
A: The only way to find a job like that is to present yourself to businesses in your area and offer to serve them. Get some materials together and get out there.
Get someone to read your materials before you present them. Writing is not your strong suit, and your mis-use of the apostrophe will give you away every time. Good luck!

Go to MLSNET.com.
Each team's website is available through MLSNET.

Q: ***Does anyone know of a job in sales, marketing, or advertising available within their company?
I have a lot of experience in event sponsorship sales and event marketing. I'd really love to work with a performing arts organization (ballet, opera, etc), media company (like Turner Broadcasting), or an ad/PR agency in some capacity. I am available to relocate anywhere in the U.S. Any leads? Please, don't tell me to go to Careerbuilder and Monster. I am networking to find an actual person within an organization that may be able to guide me in the right direction. I shall appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

I am in the south in Louisiana, but able to relocate anywhere in the U.S.
A: You should probably mention where you live.

Q: What would you say is good take home pay for a marketing executive / head of marketing in west midlands?
I have worked for the same IT company for 8 years. I have has two salary raises of £50 per month and £100 per month. I am the marketing department in that I have to do everything, events, marketing plans, pr, funding, networking, go up and down the country and so on. I take home £1300 a month after deductions.
My appraisal is coming up but if the sales team salaries are not risen, then the chance of them getting sales from following my campaigns are low. I would move if I could...but they are likely to say if I don't like it, go..I would just like to be paid something close to what the job actually is. not what management think it is....so - any advice?
A: I would think that it sounds like you're on a very low salary for someone with that much experience, but then I'm in London and I know that salaries are lower outside of London, I just don't know by how much.
Do you have a friend who does a similar job to you (in a different company) that you can ask what they're on? I know that some people don't like to discuss salaries even with friends but this is the best way to find out.
I would also advise that you have a look on Monster. They have a salary calculator which you can use to estimate what you should be on, although I've never found this particularly accurate. What you can do, though, is look at jobs which are being advertised and get a feel for the salary ranges that are listed with them.
But if you want my advice, if you're thinking of leaving, then do it now. I'm a recruiter in the IT industry and if someone sent me a CV where they'd been in the same job for eight years, unless that person was a fantastic match for the position, I wouldn't even interview them. Yes, there's a lot to be said for being loyal to your employer, but after a certain period of time there's no way that you can be learning anything new in a job, and staying there shows a lack of motivation and desire to progress in your career.
Q: What is the non-profit job market like in December for Development Associates (event and database management)?
I have been working at a non-profit in Washington, DC for two years and am looking for a new job starting right after Thanksgiving. I'm also wondering how much a Development Associate normally gets paid as I've been an AmeriCorps*VISTA with a very small salary ($10K) for these two years. I have experience in databases, event planning, and managing volunteers.
A: December is usually a slow month for hiring, but a good month for interviewing. The hiring usually starts in January, once the new quarterly budgets are freed up.
Hope this helps!

Q: How to get break into the entertainment industry in Marketing?
Hello,
I have a diploma in Computer Systems, and one in digital media/game design. I've done some websites, a bit of graphics, video and audio editing, and Flash games.
I'm currently living in my hometown (I'm in Canada) attending college in Marketing/PR/Business, and really want to do Marketing or PR in the entertainment industry when I graduate in 2 years. However, the city I live in doesn't have too many opportunities dealing with entertainment industry, and I've been doing research now on the companies I want to work for. I'm very willing to move too.
My question is how to I break into the industry in Marketing? Are there any websites (other than entertainmentcareers.net), networking events, volunteer opportunities, job fairs, newsletters, internships or anything that can get my foot in the door? or at least get myself some contacts? Or anything?
I appreciate it if anyone of you can help me out. This has always been a passion and a dream of mine that I want to achieve. Thx.
