Q: B.S. degree in Business Management - jobs?
I am currently working in an administrative position at a small office. My job title is "Office Manager" but lack some of the duties others would have in a larger office with the same position. I've applied for many jobs but never get anywhere. So I decided more education might be the key. I am going back to school to get a B.S. degree in Business Management. Do you think this will improve my chances in finding new position and advancing? Or am I wasting my money?

A: I currently hold a B.S Degree in Business and Professional Management and it has opened numerous doors for me. My degree helped join the nations largest bank in a great position and am currently enrolled in the MBA program I'm almost done. I am totally for Education, it will always aid and help you in every way possible. Q: What kind of jobs can you get with an associates in business management degree?
I had started going for an accounting degree, but I had to leave that college and now the only degree's that I can find with the colleges around me are business management....what kind of jobs can you get that are decent with this kind of degree?

A: 1.) Retail Management 2.) B2B or (more likely) B2C sales 3.) Administrative Assitant With so many people getting Bachelor's degrees, the jobs listed above are the most likely avenues to end up in. That doesn't mean that they're the only place you can go though. If you have a specific career dream, try working it part time, doing an internship, or freelancing in it after hours. A lot of times, it's not the degree but who and what you know. Good luck.

Q: What kind of jobs do Business Management majors look for after they graduate?
Or do most of them just go to Graduate School?

A: I graduated with a degree in business administration with a specialization in management. With a business degree, you can practically work in any field that needs administration support (in human resources, financing, accounting, analyzing programs/projects, etc.). For instance, you could even apply for a federal government internship at http://www.opm.gov/, which starts at $35,000 annual salary, but could increase to $75,000 in only 5 years. I have many friends who applied and were selected for internship and are now earning $85,000 before they even reach the age of 30. In my case, I've received 4 promotions since I was hired by the Department of Defense four years ago. If you are motivated, the government offers higher levels of management with their Senior Executive Service (SES). Salaries range from $140,000 to $192,000 depending on the level. More importantly, federal government agencies are also great with tuition assistance. My current employer pays 100% of my tuition for my Master of Business Administration (specialization in Finance & Accounting) degree worth $26,000. Additionally, after graduate school, I'm looking towards Six Sigma certifications. Lastly, I'm not required to work on nights, weekends and holidays, which gives me plenty of free time to study or simply, enjoy my life. Of course, the federal government (civil service) is not the only game in town. There are thousands of small/big private organizations that you could apply for positions and perhaps, be the next CEO in line. Moreover, if you have the drive and committment, you can be an entrepreneur and start your own business. In regards to graduate business school, universities requires that you possess at least 5 years of full-time job experience. Therefore, many graduate candidates are not able to apply until the age of 27-28. An MBA is not a necessity unless your desire is to attain the levels of management -- then a graduate degree is absolutely imperative. Good luck to your career!

Q: B.S. in Business Management degree - jobs?
I am currently working in an administrative position at a small office. My job title is "Office Manager" but lack some of the duties others would have in a larger office with the same position. I've applied for many jobs but never get anywhere. So I decided more education might be the key. I am going back to school to get a B.S. degree in Business Management. Do you think this will improve my chances in finding new position and advancing? Or am I wasting my money? I'm 32 and will finish in 2-2 1/2 years.

A: Might get you more interviews as some companies insist on a degree. I started college at 30, graduated at 36 am doing the same job I did before the degree except for more money. It definitely got me more interviews.

Q: High paying jobs that involve business management skills, and environmental and international awareness?
I will attend a four-year university in the fall. I plan to double-major in International Studies and Business Management, and I also have a great interest in the preservation and conservation of the envrionment. What kinds of positions should I be looking for? Any good companies you can think of? I am a natural leader and I really enjoy training other people. I know this is early in the game, but I just want ideas of what I would like to do later in life. I really need something that can bring in a nice-size paycheck, too. Any suggestions would be great!

A: There are lots of non-profit organizations that do that type of work. Just cause a company is non-profit doesn't mean they don't have tons of money. They pay big bucks too. I worked for a company once that might be something you would do in the future. The company I worked for did assessments on the workers and working conditions in all of the foreign countries that US companies had their products manufactured. Say walmart was getting t-shirts made in guatamala. The US goverment says that the plan that makes the shirts must abide by international worker standards (meaning they get paid, get a break, have bathrooms available, not hiring kids, etc.). So this company I worked for would farm out the job of actually going to the factories to sub contract firms in each of the countries, they would do an assessment and send it back here to the US and then the audit would show if Walmart was in compliance or not. The manager of this company made big big bucks. You can too. twg

Q: What are the best jobs a student right out of college can get with a masters degree in business management?
I am going to be getting my masters degree in business management soon along with a masters degree in computers and i was wondering what would be the best jobs to get with great pay. The only other experience I have in the workforce was a few years of construction. I am very young and want to make money and eventually buy some apartment buildings and hopefully make as much money as possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A: Finance is great... Investment bankers work hard but make >$300k. For example, Goldman Sachs' average salary is about $600k, and in good years even the secretaries get bonuses of $80k and up.

Q: Is it a good idea to major in Business Management for job security and flexibility after graduation?
Here's the deal, I plan on owning my own business one day, but I will need a job and a degree before that point. My interests in Business is okay, I am not just super interested in it or anything, but I am okay with it. I am considering majoring in Business and Management for the job security, so no matter what I will have a job and job flexibility. So should I major in it for flexibility (because I am always changing my mind constantly about important decisions, plus I like for my options to be open) and job security? Also, if anyone majored in or is currently majoring in business and/or management, can you give me some feedback! Any REAL, SERIOUS answers will be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A: First of all, you're on the right track in looking at flexibility, but you're looking in the wrong direction by focusing on the degree. Look at the skill sets you already have. Are you a leader? A problem solver? An out of the box thinker? Do you like mundane details and repitious tasks? Do you follow through. Do you work well with others? Now, look at the skill set you will need to own your own business. Identify the gaps and the strengths. Now look at that Business Management degree. Will it provide you with the necessary skill set to get you where you need to go? If not, I'd suggest perusing the college catalog and looking at the options with this new framework. Simply getting a degree does not mean that you will be good at anything you are trained for. Getting a dregree that builds on and enhances your natural abilities and desires almost guarantees that you will always have some job security - and the flexibility will come because of your strengths and abilities - not your degree. You'll laugh, but one of the most flexible degrees out there is a Recreation degree. You have to learn management, program planning and administration - and you have to learn to do it in small groups, large groups, communities and regions. Those skills alone, will take you a long, long way. Good Luck!
