Q: i have a tattoo on my hand (not arm), will i be able to work administrative jobs, or corporate office jobs?thx
i'm hoping to also start up a company soon, but i have qualifications to work at a law firm, or even doing administrative work for companies and research facilities. however, i used to work retail for a while so it was okay for me to have a tattoo on my hand. i can cover it with my sleeve, but i'm not sure, its still somewhat visible since its on my hand. as for my piercings, i can cover them up.
and i probably should grow my hair out (since i have a mohawk now).
i just don't know if trends have changed in the office place or if its still unacceptable, even though it does absolutely no harm.
i don't want my ambitions to go to waste, and i don't want to remove the tattoo either.
Help!
A: What a great question! It is so hard to grow up. I know what you are going through! I worked in retail for 10 years where I was able to pierce or tattoo anything I wanted! Granted, I never got any tattoos, but my piercings help me represent who I have become and how I have grown.
Although, my current job is in an administrative, quite conservative company they have not made me remove my piercings. They accept me for who I am, and know that I have more "drive" than others here that are more on the conservative side. They have seen past my "youthful" appearance and my style of dress. They love me.
Some companies do not care. And some companies are concerned with the presentation it gives the company as a whole if one person has a visible tattoo. You know that most of the CEO's, Presidents and VPs, etc. have something they are hiding under their stiff collar. But, they still get that broom handle stuck up there that says "no way" to someone with a visible tattoo.
I would find a smaller law firm, even a one man show to work for. They might not care as much.
Since you are planning on starting your own business soon, don't try to change who you are just for a little while. Someone will hire you, but it might not be the pay or type of company you want.
Good luck, Hon!

A: Besides vet offices, there are large farming operations, like milking cows or race horses, where you could work. I worked at a race horse farm when I was in college in their office. It was great experience and the horses were beautiful.
Q: How to get a administrative/office assistant job?
Im taking classes for microsoft programs. but other than that i dont have clerical experience. How do i get jobs like these if I dont have experience? do i need a business degree. i already have my bachelors but it isn't in business. I've noticed a few office assistant positons that aren't asking for more than year in experience. What are these companies looking for in these positions?
A: I agree with everything that NFL FAN said. I'm also old enough to remember them being called secretaries, lol.
You will get an interview, probably with a smaller sized company. That's a good thing, because you will be asked to do many things, broadening your skills.
The main thing they will be looking for in you is attitude. Try to be as bright and perky as you can be. Remember that you will often be the first face customers see when they walk in the door, or voice they hear when the call...the person interviewing you will be looking at your personality traits.
Q: What's a good paying job in administrative and office support?
What jobs are there in administrative and offices that makes a lot of money and room for advancement and what degrees do one need? Also if one wanted to be an administrative assistant or do something in office support in an hospital, what kind of job would it be? Also, what is being a court reporter like and the pay? Thanks in advance.
A: Administrative Assistant job is really good and the salary depends upon location !!
The Median Hourly Rate by Years Experience in United States is
Less than 1 year $11.75
1 to 4 years $12.51
5 to 9 years $ 13.89
10 to 19 years $ 14.71
Above 20 years $ 15.37
Q: I have an administrative office job interview for an engineering firm, any pointers?
besides make eye contact and dress nice.
A: Brush up on the company, their mission and goals. If there is a reason that you specifically want to work for this company (i.e. they have a good reputation in the field, good people working for them, etc.) them make sure you tell them that.
Do NOT ask about salary or benefits. If they bring up salary, then give them a good number, but don't ask because it makes you look like that's all you care about.
Remember the names of the people who interview you and at the end of the interview make sure to say, "Ms. Raines, Mr. Smith it was a pleasure to meet you and I hope to hear from you soon." This shows that you are good with names, a very good trait in an admin!
Give a good handshake when you come in and everyone introduces themselves. Not too tough, but don't be a weeny wristed wimp, either. Shows confidence in a new situation.
They might get into a "situational" type of interview. It's a little harder, but nice because there are no right or wrong answers. The questions are generally, "What would you do in this situation...." and are designed to show how you think. If you can have a reason for your reaction, and justify that reasoning, AND have a clear train of thought for getting from point A to point B - that's what they're looking for more than the answer itself. It also shows that you can think on your feet.
If they ask, "Why are you the best applicant for the job?" then tell them!! Tell them that you have this and such experience, you are looking for an environment with advancement possibilities, you have this and such for carreer goals... sell yourself - because no one will do it for you. It's absolutlely OK to brag yourself up, as long as it's all true and verifiable.
Also - be very nice to the admin or secretary or whoever it is who greets you and asks you to wait for Mr. Smith. I can guarantee that they'll be asking what she thought.
Ask about turnover rate. Ask why the last person left and how long they were there. Ask if the people interviewing you will be people that you report to. So ask intelligent questions that show that you have thought about things, but more than anything ASK. Ask anything, because it shows that you're trying to get more information in order to make an intelligent choice regarding your future.
Remember that YOU are interviewing THEM as well! This is your chance to see if you think you'll fit into the environment. Even if they offer something to you, you don't have to take it.
And also know that everything is negotiable! If they offer you 40K a year to start and you want 45K, then tell them that.
So :
1. Dress nicely. A suit with heels and hose would be nice.(I know it's summer and hot, but you can take the suit jacket off once you leave the building!)
2. Be nice to whoever greets you.
4. Good handshake with eye contact
5. Remember their names!
6. Use their names when you say goodbye.
7. Ask when they'll be contacting the successful applicant.
8. Ask questions about the position and company.
9. Do NOT ask questions about the salary and benefits.
10. Answer the questions honestly. If you had a bad work experience and left a job, explain that. Explain when and why.
11. The most important point ----- RELAX! You'll be fine. Take a deep breath when you go in and wow 'em!

Q: Office/Administrative Job?
Hello I live in Milwaukee, wi I am having the hardest time finding a office job in this town. Any suggestions, and I have tried the classifieds. Im more than qualified HELPPPP!!!!!
A: More and more companies are beginning to rely on the internet for job postings. Check Yahoo Hotjobs or Careerbuilder.com for openings.
Updating your resume and having friends and family look it over is ALWAYS beneficial. Make sure your resume is completely free of spelling and grammar mistakes and try to keep it under one-page.
You can also contact employment agencies within your city if you're not having much success on your own.
Good luck!
Q: Office job/Administrative Assistant?
My fiance is looking for a good job in Orange County as an Administrative Assistant or some kind of office job. She is a super tasker and has experience. For some reason, we can't find an interesting job that pays well. Anyone know of anyone hiring? Thanks!!!
A: Clerical jobs pay very low. The best pay in clerical would be office manager of a large company or assistant to the ceo. Computer Jobs pay much much better, even at a regular office.
Q: I like to know what skills are needed for entry level administrative support or general office job.?
Only people that know for sure. Either working in the adminstrative field or empIoyer, career counselor. been long time since I done office work as a file clerk. I need to know what skills are needed. I'm getting different anwers what computer skills are needed is the Microsoft XP, 2003, or the newest version. Does explorer prefer you go to school or the computer experience are good enough with other customer service skills I already have. Any other skills/ associations I should join that make my resume look good please let me know.
A: Tasha,
These are all general, so keep that in mind. Every office has unique needs.
Receptionist: Should be someone who is dressed to meet the public, can learn to operate a complex phone system, type approx. 35wpm, can learn to operate a postage machine. This person should be tidy too. Computer skills should be either working on a basic level with either MS Word or WordPerfect and MS Excel. Copy, paste, labels, envelops, format paste, document storage all should be part of the knowledge base. Many offices have servers where no information is stored on the desk computer. Knowing how and where to store documents on the computer is essential.
Administrative Assistant / Secretary -- there are all sorts of versions for this position. However, very generally: Should be able do all that the Receptionist can do plus....
Type 50 wpm, have VERY GOOD Word document skills such as understanding how to format letters according either to industry or company standards, prepare reports for presentation, VERY Strong Excel spreadsheet skills, including placing basic formulas, working with budgets, filling out timesheets that are task oriented, knowledge of basic accounting, keeping inventory of office supplies and staying within budget, keeping calendars, a strong awareness of company policies and protocols, able to self initiate to correct small problems, able to transcribe from recordings, take notes for others, understand a variety of filing systems, keep and maintain contacts for the executive/company, schedule meetings where others are attending, mail merging for large mailings.
There are some courses you can take either at a community college or on-line.
Administrative people keep information available for the decision makers of a company. Administrative support also makes sure that the decision makers of the company have the tools that they need, like office supplies, phone messages, functioning office equipment, outgoing mail, incoming mail, accessible files and so forth.
Good Luck on your path.
XP is a system, but not a program for computers.
Q: im lıiving in kastamonu turkey can i find office job like secretary or administrative in turkey?
because i dont speak turkish, are there any english or european companies in turkey hired can speak english only.is it possible i can find a job here in turkey.
A: You can apply in some companies in Istanbul for International Relations position but at least a minimum Turkish is a must.
You can also apply in embassies in Istanbul and Ankara but than again, I don't think you can get an Administrative job in Kastamonu.
Q: differences between administrative assistant and business office assistant?
whats the difference can i get a job as a Administrative job if i go to school for business office assistant? whats the difference cuz there is a school i want to go to one offers that and the other offers business office assistant.
A: They sound very similar though generally, the title of 'administrative assistant' makes more money with more responsibility such as making travel arrangements, computer applications.
Please forgo those private $$ career schools and instead look into the county vo-tech school or community college (perhaps non-credit course) as it should be much more affordable.
Q: What would be a better job to go for: Administrative office Professional or Cosmetology?
What do you think i should choose.?
A: cosmetology.
thats what i want to do.
XD
Q: Job description of Office administrative Assistant?
I am an Administrative Assistant. I am supposed to make a job description of what my duties are. I am having trouble getting started. I work in a Private Money Mortgage Company. Any general qualities of an Office Administer, or Administrative Assistant I would be very happy with.....
A: Just go through a typical day in your head of what you do all day and start writing. Then edit and polish it up.
Admin Assistants do everything from making coffee to light bookkeeping, it just depends. Usually though, heavy word processing is involved... typing letters, even spreadsheets. Scheduling appointments, answering phones, filing.
Good luck.
Q: A question about administrative/Office positions?
I want to get an office job position I'm not really too sure what exact position I want but I'm taking a class for microsoft office programs and I want to know how much you need to know about excel, ms word, access, powerpoint, etc and is math required? I'm not really good in math.
A: Word and Excel are a must, Powerpoint if you will be doing presentations and access if you'll be doing any of the bookkeeping.
As a Legal Secretary, I never had to use Excel as I worked in large firms in Los Angeles where they had their own accounting department (and every other separate department you could think of).
I added Excel because now, being unemployed and looking for work, most jobs are looking for someone proficient in Excel these days as well as Word. WordPerfect wouldn't be bad to learn, either.
Good luck and have fun!!
