Q: how do you get sample tests on city jobs, like The city of Sacramento Administrative Assistant job?
A: I'm not sure if they actually provide sample tests. I believe they will let you take the test more than once.
I suggest you contact the HR department for the city of Sacramento and ask them what their testing policies are. They should also be able to tell you whether they offer sample tests, and what type of tests you would need to take for an Admin job. In addition to a civil service test, as an Administrative Assistant, they may also require typing or computer skills tests.
If the city doesn't offer sample tests, and you want to make your best attempt at passing the first time, find out if the tests are similar to college entrance exams. What I mean is, are they multiple choice knowledge tests in math, English, vocabulary, logic, etc. If so, you should be able to use college and/or graduate school entrance prep books -- those huge books containing sample questions for the SAT, LSAT, etc.
If you'll be required to take a typing test, that should be pretty easy to prepare for. There is typing skills software available that will build speed and accuracy. A few are even downloadable on the Internet free. You just have to do a search for them.
Computer skills -- Word and Excel, or whatever software the city uses -- is a bit trickier. There will probably be some basic knowledge tested but when it comes to the advanced features, it's impossible to know which features the test will cover. But there are tons of books and CDs available that you can use to see which features tech authors are covering.
I offer all the previous advice without knowing your skill levels in any of these areas, so forgive me if I've suggested preparation in areas in which you're already strong.
Good luck!

Q: How does one qualify and find jobs as an administrative assistant?
I have a degree in Techna Business from New Hampshire College but I am not a Christian. I think that hurts me a lot!
A: Your Religious preference should not be a barrier to you getting a job here in New Hampshire!!
Anyways, if you have computer skills, organization skills and other office management skills, it would be easier for you to get a job as an office administrative assistance.
Administrative assistance can mean an office manager or even a secretary. It depends on the work environment and what the company does.
If you want to find a job as an administrative assistance, you can look in the newspapers, Union Leader and the Concord Monitors are great for employment ads in the majority part of the state, or you can even post resumes on various sites like yahoo hot jobs.
Another place you can go to is a temp agency. There are many of them around the state. They receive notices on open positions from various employers looking for someone to fill in. This gives potential permanent employees and opportunity to explore their options and see what else is out there for them.
Q: How do I find an at home administrative assistant job???
I am currently an at home mom with 3 young children my 2 older children will be in Nursery and preschool for a few hours daily. I figured that this would give me time to make some extra money to help with our family's income. I was an international and national inside sales coordinater for some time, then moved back to my hometown where I was a legal secretary for 6 years or so. Obviously my knowledge is within law and more specific personal injury law. Are employers looking for this type of worker and if so does anyone have any leads for me in the albany, NY area??? Thanks!
A: You can start at some temporary staffing firms like Administaff, Accountemps, etc and if the firm likes you they will make you a permanent hire. Many smaller firms do this.

Q: im trying to get a receptionist/ administrative assistant job but no response?
i just started volunteering at red cross as a receptionist. but i cant seem to find a job for this.i know word/excel, know how to use the phones. its like they wont even take a look at my resume im applying several times a day to different online sites. but im getting no response. help?
A: First is make a resume that shows off all your skills.
Just google on resume tips and templates theres a lot out there you can use
Make sure to keep your resume not more than 2 pages
show special trainings or you have related to your job
Put in a good objective.
Second. If you are in the US make a job profile and Monster.com or Careerbuilder.com
Those are jobsites you can search jobs for by filed.
Keywords to use are administrative or clerical
Make sure to NOT apply for those work for home things...mosts are scams
Register at Temp agencies like Appleone or Manpower, they do a lot of Job placement for positions that you are searching for
Q: Does anyone have any tips on preparing for an administrative assistant job interview?
A: I just got done taking a course in school for resumes and interviews. The best thing you can do to impress the company is research thoroughly what their business is, what it does, and where they're planning to go in the future. Take a note-pad with questions and something to write with. Taking extreme interest in the job will show you're dedicated. Also, be fully prepared to talk yourself up. It seems egotistical, but the interviewer is probably going to ask you several questions pertaining to why you think you should be hired. Outline your best assets before the interview so you're prepared. Good luck!!!
